There is something so simple and pure about an animal parent introducing their young to the world.
On January 31, 2014, Marta and Bruno welcomed their fifth baby into the world at the Hellabrunn Zoo. When Marta gave birth, she was 39 years old!
Typically Sumatran orangutans only give birth every 8 years or so, but at the time Marta’s second youngest was only 4! The little one, Jolie, would still suckle off mom, especially trying to steal milk after her sibling was born in 2014.
The orangutan family debuted the baby just a few days after the birth. The newborn clung to mom while she hung out in their enclosure. She nibbled on some food, lounged around, and seemed unphased by Jolie’s attempts at getting more milk.
In the video below, you can see how adorable the newborn is when mom finally moves her arm and reveals the baby’s beautiful face. She even has a little smile on her lips!
If you are constantly in awe the miracle of birth, especially among wild animals, you will also love this video of a rhino mom giving birth without an assistance at the Hellabrunn Zoo.
