When you buy a carton of eggs at the supermarket, you expect to know what you’re getting. There should be no other ingredient or food in that carton expect for the eggs. It all seems quite obvious. You wouldn’t think that there would be a need to list the ingredients or the allergens like on packaged goods.
But one buyer made a startling discovery on a carton of half a dozen eggs. He was surprised by the fine print, specifically one line that read ‘Allergy advice.’
As it turned out, the distributing company felt the need to remind customers that eggs do in fact contain egg, and that if they are allergic to the food they shouldn’t buy it!
While it seems like a silly concept, there are a number of reasons — namely legal ones — why a company may feel like this information was important to convey.
Who knows why the allergy fine print is included on the carton? The next time you buy eggs at the store, check out the container to see if you can find that information. Maybe it was under our noses this entire time!
