Young Boy Watches Football Player Take Off Helmet, But Has No Idea It’s His Soldier Dad

The Nebraska Cornhuskers, a college football team, recently started their spring games. The ‘Huskers also happen to be the favorite team of Staff Sergeant Matthew Hawke.

Sergeant Hawke has been deployed to Afghanistan for the last 10 months.

But he came back home, at long last, and decided to surprise his family, with some help from the Nebraska Cornhuskers organization.

They set up the premise that the Hawke family — the Sergeant’s wife and three kids — were to be invited onto the field for the ceremonial coin toss before the game began.

Usually, during the coin toss, players from both teams join the field.

Little did the family know, one of the ‘Huskers players was Sergeant Hawke in disguise!

The Sergeant had been invited into the locker room to meet the players of his favorite team, and then outfitted in a uniform of his own.

He then ran out onto the field with the other players, the packed stadium exploding into cheers.

Sergeant Hawke followed the other representatives of the team to the center of the field for the coin toss.

His son was brought forward for the toss, and at that moment, his dad removed his helmet!

The boy’s face instantly split into a wide smile, but Sergeant Hawke’s family couldn’t see him fully behind all the ruckus — yet.
