Graduating college is considered to be one of the biggest accomplishments a person can reach. But for Daivon Reeder, a young man from Detroit, his college graduation was more than a just milestone — it was a form of retribution.
“I was just sitting around and thinking about the things I went through to get here and to graduate,” said Daivon, recalling what went through his mind before he took the now-viral photo that is making all the waves on the internet. “That one thing stood out to me.”
Daivon is currently getting ready for his graduation from Eastern Michigan University with a major in Criminal Justice and a minor in Military Science.
But if he had listened to the doubters — primarily, his stepdad — he might not have accomplished all that he has.
In fact, his stepdad never believe he had what it takes to graduate college.
In the photo, as shown in the video below, which Daivon took and posted to his Twitter account, he wrote the following caption: “My step dad told me it was pointless to go to orientation. I wasn’t going to graduate…4 years later he in jail and I’m well…”
He then added a couple of laughing emojis, right above the photo of him in full cap and gown, having proved his stepdad wrong!
