Amandla Stenberg will be only taking roles in which are near along with dear to her heart.
The 19-year-old actress first made waves with her emotional performance in 2012’s Hunger Gamesalong with then waited for the right role to come her way. Wise beyond her years, waiting also cost her a part within the biggest movie of the year so far, Black Panther.
“One of the most challenging things for me to do was to walk away via Black Panther,” Stenberg revealed in an interview with CBC Arts. “I got truly, truly close along with they were like, ‘Do you want to continue fighting with This specific?’ along with I was like, This specific isn’t right.”
“These are all dark skin actors playing Africans along with I feel like the item would likely have just been off to see me as a bi-racial American that has a Nigerian accent just pretending in which I’m the same colour as everyone else within the movie,” she continued.
nevertheless Stenberg, who will be biracial, says she has “no regrets” about passing up the opportunity.
“in which was truly challenging, to make in which decision, nevertheless I have no regrets,” she confessed. “I recognize 100 percent in which there are spaces in which I should not take up along with when I do take up a space the item’s because I’ve thought truly, truly critically about the item along with I’ve consulted people I truly trust along with the item feels right.”
The actress also expressed in which she’s “someone who cannot fake the item. I can only do something with my full heart invested or just not do the item at all.”
While Stenberg will be still young, she admits in which her career will be not a race. “I didn’t feel like I had to be working all the time just to prove in which I could work,” she confessed. “I still have a lot of time. You don’t have to force your career to happen all at once. “
“I also just like to play characters in which I believe in, in which are three-dimensional, in which I think are worth the item,” Stenberg continued. “I don’t truly want to have to diminish myself to something less nuanced or less authentic just because those roles don’t normally exist for someone like me.”
Meanwhile, Black Panther has been heating up at the box office. On Thursday, the movie became the 17th highest domestic Discharge in only 13 days, grossing $763.3 million within the U.S., according to Variety.
