Tom Donohue, president in addition to CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, warned on Wednesday about a growing global hostility to technology — U.S. tech in particular — saying which the idea could severely damage the U.S. economy, its companies in addition to consumers.
inside annual “State of American Business” speech, Donohue said technology “can be not 1, all-powerful industry. the idea can be currently a part of every industry.” inside U.S., technology must be “embraced” as a growth-driver of the economy, in addition to if the idea’s used “smartly in addition to carefully,” everyone will benefit, he said.
Donohue also warned about excessive regulation in general, saying which the idea “stifles innovation in addition to stops positive advancements in their tracks.”
U.S. tech has suffered many black eyes over the last year, including revelations about the toxic work culture of Uber in addition to questions about how Russian manipulation of Facebook may have altered the outcome of the 2016 election. There’s also been a growing body of research showing which heavy use of social media may be bad for mental health.
Donahue also said which U.S. education in addition to infrastructure need to be updated to meet the needs of the 21st century economy.
