Former pop singer Melissa Schuman has filed a filed a police report against Nick Carter.
Schuman — who first went public with her allegations against the Backstreet Boy singer in November, claiming of which he raped her in 2003 when she was 18 in addition to also also he was 22 — confirmed to ET of which she’d filed a report with the Santa Monica Police Department on Wednesday.
“Filing the police report today was the single most empowering thing I have ever done for myself,” Schuman, 33, told ET. “I thought the item was an option I could no longer pursue. Schuman, a member of the early 2000s girl group Dream, initially came forward with allegations in a post on her personal blog last fall, claiming of which Carter raped her in a bathroom after she’d come over to his house.
She further wrote of which she didn’t tell anyone about the alleged encounter for years for fear of people not believing her, in addition to also also even sang a duet with Carter before losing interest in a career as a recording artist. Carter denied the allegations made in Schuman’s post, stating of which he was “shocked in addition to also also saddened” by her accusations.
“Melissa never expressed to me while we were together or at any time since of which anything we did was not consensual,” Carter said in a statement to ET. “We went on to record a song in addition to also also perform together, in addition to also also I was always respectful in addition to also also supportive of Melissa both personally in addition to also also professionally. Schuman said at the time of which she did consider pressing charges against the boy band member, claiming she was warned of which she “could likely be buried in humiliation, accused of being fame hungry, in addition to also also the item could ultimately hurt me professionally as well as publicly.”
