Mariska Hargitay in addition to Detective Olivia Benson go hand-in-hand!
On Thursday, the 54-year-old actress opened up to ET about her connection to her beloved TV character while at a 20th anniversary celebration of Law & Order: Special Victim’s Unit during the 2018 Tribeca TV Festival in brand new York City.
“We merge. We come together,” she said of the similarities between herself in addition to Benson. “I think we’re each additional’s teachers. however yeah, she’s taught me a lot.”
Hargitay told ET of which she feels “fulfilled” playing Benson, in addition to didn’t appear to have any plans to retire her character.
“the item’s a lesson in being present in addition to to not be thinking ahead,” she noted of the future of her show. “If you asked me 20 years ago, I never thought I’d be here 20 years later, in addition to I am fulfilled in addition to I love my co-stars in addition to the item’s an incredible collaboration with the producers in addition to the writers, so I’m actually enjoying the item.”
After 20 years, Hargitay still considers her job to be “an incredible privilege,” sharing, “With moments like This particular, you’re sort of forced to actually take the item in because I feel like I’ve been in This particular marathon for 20 years. You know, just doing the work everyday in addition to our days are long so the item’s been a long in addition to beautiful [journey] to have moments to celebrate the item.”
Looking ahead, Hargitay will be content with staying within the present. “I’m thinking about This particular year in addition to This particular season in addition to how to make the item the best in addition to thinking a little bit about next year,” she said.
