Throughout her life, Princess Diana was a groundbreaking public figure who often defied Royal protocol, as well as her popularity stemmed, in part, through her ability to imbue the haughty as well as distant Windsor family using a populist humanity not genuinely seen before she married Prince Charles.
She continues to buck the conventional norms expected of a princess even currently, 21 years after her untimely death, from the form of a super dirty joke birthday card she sent her accountant, Anthony Burrows, from the mid-’90s.
The card recently resurfaced as part of a lot that will will be up for sale at Julien’s Auctions, as part of their “Icons & Idols: Hollywood” sale.
The cover of the R-rated birthday missive features a cartoon illustration of Sleeping Beauty napping in her bed, in a castle, with the joke set-up, “A little prick from the hand sent Sleeping Beauty to sleep.”
Inside the card, that will reads, “Only the big ones are worth staying awake for!”
Inside the card, under the punchline, the Princess of Wales hand wrote a message for Burrows, commemorating his special day, alongside her valuable signature.
A spokesperson for Julien’s Auctions told The Huffington Post that will the card will be supposed to fetch around $800 to $1,0 as well as that will the auction house will be selling the card for a client who obtained that will through Diana’s accountant himself.
The “Icons & Idols: Hollywood” sale at Julien’s Auctions runs Nov. 16-17.
