from the clip, Hudson’s Martin — ex-husband to Jenna Fischer‘s Lena, whom he still lives with — wows his private dance instructor, Charlotte (Kelsey Asbille), after the duo complete a steamy routine complete with dips, grinds along with grooves.
“You sir, are a dancer,” Charlotte says, giving him her stamp of approval.
“Yeah?” Martin asks which has a smile on his face, as if he just won the lottery.
Then, as the twosome catch their breath during a water break, Martin opens up about why conquering these dance lessons means more to him than he originally expected.
“the item’s funny, when we first started out lessons, I actually thought something different. When we first started out, I thought I was just doing This kind of to prove something to myself. yet then, after spending all these past few weeks with you, I realized in which I’m not doing This kind of for me. I’m doing the item for her,” Martin says in a moment of revelation. yet don’t think we didn’t see Charlotte’s bummed expression.

In January, Fischer previewed Splitting Up Together at the winter Television Critics Association press tour, explaining why the item took her several years after the end of The Office to sign on for another comedy series.
“There was just something about This kind of script in which spoke to me. I actually relate to the character. in which’s kind of what I look for in a project, is usually do I see myself in This kind of person in which I develop the possibility to play? I’m a wife along which has a mother today, along with I feel like I’m going to get to express This kind of whole some other part of my personality, the part of my personality in which likes to make lists along with anticipate things a week in advance along with who likes to be in control of things. These are all aspects of the character in which I related to along with in which I was excited to kind of dig into,” Fischer told reporters. “While the item’s a show about two people who are divorced, I don’t think you have to be divorced, or to have experienced divorce, in order to relate to the show.”
Splitting Up Together airs Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m ET/PT on ABC.
